Wind-induced Noise

Wind noise can be generated by winds flowing over elements attached to buildings or through gaps within buildings. The audible noise generated from these aero-acoustic phenomena can be particularly annoying when the wind noise is tonal and is in resonance with the natural frequency of the building elements.

In addition to reducing the potential for wind induced noise, great consideration needs to be taken to reduce the transfer of any structure borne noise through façades and into interiors.

Our Approach

Novasim has a proven track record in identifying wind induced noise issues in the early stages of design and working together with clients to solve wind acoustic problems before they arise. Novasim combines the use of theoretical noise propagation models with computational air flow assessments or wind tunnel testing to qualify the potential extent of wind noise generation. The wind induced noise expertise and experience that Novasim brings to each and every project ensures that knowledge based, cost effective solutions are the focused output of all analyses.
